Chasing my dreams - Part 2
tryst with GMAT part 2
after my first, not so successful attempt at GMAT, I applied to few schools. Got an interview call from a rather well-ranked European Business school and then got dinged!
Thought and thought and thought..... and finally concluded, it was not only GMAT score that I needed to improve in my application. I decided to seek active oppurtunities to add to diversity of my profile especially professionally; to actively seek to enhance my skills set and expand my knowledge base.
The first step towards this was taking up assignment at Shipyard. While I had sailed for 8 year as yet I never had opportunity to spend time at yard, looking at construction/repair part.
This assignment also gave me opportunity to work in China; more because it was amongst the smallest town in china, coming up with largest shipyard in future.
While at China, I also happened to meet my future business partners. One of whom had already been my boss before and the other was my-then-boss. The common thing between all three of us was that we all wanted to grow beyond the "Captain X Y Z" tag. We decided to start something of our own. I got my present and my ex- boss together and we came up with idea of a technical and crew management company. and thus started our new venture "Marine Solutionz Ship Management Pvt Ltd."
Immediately after completing my assignment in October' 08 we started with this. Another thing that was common between us that we had maintained contact with most of people ( captains /chief Officers) who had sailed with us, people who are now the more known faces in Indian maritime Industry. This gave us a kick start; we not only got inside information at pressing the call button of our cellfone, but also got our first business through them.
Today, almost 4 months after we have started, we have 3 Ships under us. We have sent more than 70 sea-farers in last three months and our clients includes respected name like India Steamships within the Indian maritime industry and Herning Shipping a.s, outside.
In between, somewhere, I also got a call from the same European Business School, which had earlier dinged me, that whether i would like to be considered for Jan 10 intake. However, they also wanted that I increase my GMAT score by 20 points.

Additionally to improve my profile, i also started to take spanish lesson( thanks to my "mujer") and enrolled for CFA.
And now, when we are placed rather comfortably( a little bit too early to say) within the Indian manning industry, I decided to take another attempt at GMAT, in flat 40 days.
I would write my daily journal as before and lets see how it turns
